DEFA PTC 500W motor heating element for Ø 16mm hose 412761

The PTC series motor heater is designed for efficient and safe preheating of the motor.

This heater has a heating chamber connected between hose ends with different connection angles and thus enables simple and safe assembly.

This heater can be purchased for different types of vehicles.

The new PTC hose heater has its name from the self-regulating PTC heating element. Its heating chamber is designed to be used with hose connectors in different dimensions and angles that can be replaced depending on engine and vehicle models. This makes the PTC heater easy to install in a wide range of vehicles. The PTC technology ensures that power is reduced when the coolant reaches its target temperature increase.

The PTC element and electronics is placed in a ”dry zone” separated from the engine coolant. This heater is normally installed in the oil cooler hose or heater hose and may be used with or without a pump. It has a built-in internal over-temperature fuse with an automatic reset function.

Replaceable hose connections in 180(x2), 135 and 90-degree angles are included with the heater.

The PTC hose heater is available in 3 dimensions:

DEFA AS conforms to the requirements of both ISO 9001- 2008, ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007. In addition, our engine heaters and cables conform to the requirements of ISO/TS 16949:2002.

Installation of DEFA heaters MUST be performed by certified mechanics.

Install the heater in accordance with the installation guide.

ONLY Install the heater on vehicles listed in the installation guide.

Hose ends with a connection angle of 90° and 135° are also supplied as standard in the package

The heater can be used in line with or without a pump. It is usually connected to hosescoolant or oil cooling hose. The heater can only be mounted on the vehicles listed.

Installation of the heater wouldit should only be carried out by an authorized service.

Technical specification:
Supply voltage: 230 V
Power at -25°C: 500 W
IP protection: 44
Certification according to: EN60335-1, EMKO-TSB(61), ISO 16949: 2002

PTC HEATER
1. The DEFA PTC heater preheats the coolant. PTC (power consumption) technology
means that when the desired increase in coolant temperature is achieved, it will decrease
energy consumption. Power consumption is 500W at -25°C, but it depends on the resistance
in the cooling circuit.
2. Make sure the ends of the hoses are clean and undamaged. Use only endings
and retractable tapes supplied by DEFA. Sealing rings are lubricated by the manufacturer as required additional lubrication, use coolant from the vehicle.

ASSEMBLY CONDITIONS

1. The heater must only be connected to the external cooling circuit
2. Make sure that when preheating the liquid, there are no valves that electronics
closes/opens the external cooling circuit
3. If the vehicle is not on the DEFA list for preheater fitting - and the vehicle is
electronic monitoring system for monitoring the temperature of the coolant
and closes the valve for the flow of this liquid - this can cause problems at
start, activities and report errors on the dashboard. Preheating for such a vehicle DO NOT ASSEMBLY.
4. The heater must be securely anchored according to the vehicle manufacturer's installation requirements
additional devices.
5. Do not mount the heater on or too close to rotating parts to avoid damage.
6. If you must mount the heater near the rotating part, use the original protection
parts of the vehicle to prevent damage or unwanted noise.

ASSEMBLY PROCEDURE
1. Place the heater as low as possible on a suitable hose, where it should be
at an angle of at least 45° to ensure good coolant circulation.
2. The ends must be suitable for the given diameter of the hose
3. Place the ends of the hose on the end caps as far as they will go. Secure them with tape
4. Use only the included seat belts or the belts specified in the vehicle specification.
5. Use only the prescribed coolant
6. Top up the cooling system and check the connections for tightness
7. Connect the heater to the voltage source and monitor the temperature changes in the cooling loop and engine block

HOSE END REPLACEMENT
Procedure according to the drawing, pictures A-G
 B partially pull out the locking ring
 Turn C and pull out the tip. Note: check that it contains all parts
 Assemble the new end cap according to picture D. All parts must be undamaged
and clean. The sealing O-ring is lubricated by the manufacturer. If it's dry, just use a cooler
vehicle fluid, do not use any other lubricant.
 E insert the new end cap into place so that the locking groove is on
where the locking ring will go.
 F push the locking ring down until it clicks. Locking ring tab
goes to the center of the heater (not to the hose)
 The G ending is ready

 H angle ends can be turned
 Inlet - end of hose No. 1 - is in the same direction as the end of the power supply
electric cable
 I holder – the heater has 2 holes on both sides for fixing the supplied holder. Holder
can be fixed in different positions, using 2 self-tapping screws (part
packages)

NOTE: Refer to the pattern for placing and securing the PTC heater to your vehicle

OTHERS
 It is important that the hose cuts are straight and clean. So that the ends of the hose are connected to
ends firmly and to the stop. The tightening straps must be perpendicular to the hose
and tightened with a force of 2Nm.
 The installation of the PTC heater must be tight (no leaks), this is the only way to ensure heating
engine and coolant circulation.
 Connect the power to the electrical connector of the heater. After connecting it should be
heater hot
 After 20-30 minutes, the heat should be distributed throughout the engine circuit,
see for yourself in different places.
 If the built-in thermostat turns on and off (you hear a click) and the engine is not warm,
this means that the refrigerant is not circulating properly.
 Check the tightness of the hose connections even after starting the engine, when the coolant is low
under pressure and the water pump is in operation.
The product warranty is only valid if the previous conditions are met.
